david porter
Just went on to check some of JSJS's info in the past - it appears he is spot on with most of it. JSJS, I don't know why you use different nics, but you seem to know your mining stuff, so keep up the good work, its appreciated.
I did some searching on the internet for a bit of background on David Porter, the current MD for AMG and it does look like he a top class manager.
From what I can make he has been:
--Chief Geologist for Freeport (Owner of the largest gold mine in the world, and third largest copper mine in the world, the Grasberg mine)
Bre-X Minerals Meltdown Burns Many Small Investors

(excerp from article)
The fact that Bre-X geologist Michael de Guzman chose to take his own life only 13 days after Freeport's due-diligence team landed at Busang has fed the perception that he had something to hide. A fire at Busang in January, which destroyed some of his records, and reports that intruders broke into Freeport Chief Geologist David Porter's hotel room have only added to the air of mystery.
--Managing director for DMR, a gold miner which was taken over in 1999
DMR board accepts bid.
171 words 4 May 1999 The West Australian 52 English
Gold miner Hargraves Resources has won its battle for Diversified Mineral Resources, whose board urged acceptance. Diversified Mineral Resources (DMR) board had previously rejected Hargraves' offer of one share plus $A0.10 for every four DMR shares but said support for the bid from South African gold miner Durban Roodepoort Deep would deliver Hargraves 83% control. DMR managing director, David Porter says DRD's backing of Hargraves had erased some uncertainty over Hargraves direction , given that it was likely to be the vehicle for DRD's expansion into Australia.

THE MONTH THE GLOBE - Africwest joins with Iscor.
131 words 25 May 1999 Australia's Mining Monthly English (c) 1999 Australia's Mining Monthly
Africwest Gold NL has struck an agreement that will see it emerge as the gold exploration arm of South African company, Iscor Ltd. In exchange for 70 million Africwest shares at 10c a share, Africwest will acquire gold and copper assets in Tanzania, Uganda, Kazakhstan, Vanuatu and Fiji from the Iscor group. Completion of the transaction will leave Iscor holding up to 57% of Africwest's issued capital.
Africwest already has exploration properties in West Africa and a healthy cash balance of $4 million. If the deal goes through, directors Rick Crabb and David Porter will resign, leaving Jack Gardiner as the remaining original director. The remaining seats on the board will be filled with Iscor nominees.
-- and Exploration manager for Gasgoyne gold mines
APPOINTMENT - WESTERN REEFS LTD.
81 words 30 November 1996 Australia's Mining Monthly 88 English (c) 1996 Australia's Mining Monthly
Western Reefs Ltd says its board has been strengthened with the appointment of David Porter as a non-executive director. Porter, a geologist, has been involved in major projects including Horseshoe Lights, Mt Bradley, Norseman and Yilgarn Star. He was recently exploration director of Gasgoyne Gold Mines NL and is credited with playing a key role in the discovery of the Yilgarn Star orebody and the Awak Mas project in Indonesia.
So it would seem as if this man has an impeccable record of creating shareholder wealth where he has been in senior management roles ... AMG is looking more interesting all the time.
