East Nusa Tenggara Governor to Stop All Mines

KUPANG, NNC - East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Governor, Viktor B Laiskodat said that all types of mining on the island-based province would be monitored because they could damage the surrounding environment.
"The main thing is that everything related to the mines would be stopped," he told reporters in Kupang, Monday (9/10/2018).
The Nasdem politician said that he would first examine the mines in NTT, if the mine affects the environment, it will automatically be closed.
"I don't want mining activities to damage the natural beauty of NTT," he added.

Meanwhile, NTT environmental activist Aleta Baun or commonly called Mama Aleta said that she fully supports the mine moratorium program planned by the Governor and Deputy Governor of NTT.
"For me the moratorium is very important, because we have yet managed (activities) above ground, why do we have to spoil the underground," she said, as reported by Antara.
