If I was management of VHA I wouldn’t merge with TPG for a couple of years at least.
With 5G on the horizon, telcos will start to move towards unlimited data plans. It’s already happening overseas.
Unfortunately when you build a national mobile network it costs a truck load upfront... then you need to get users ASAP to fill it or the dollars leak out.
HTA is a very good example of how difficult a task it is to build a network, that actually works and has enough customers to pay for it. After all of these years Vodafone are just getting there now.
Vodafone have copped a lot of flak for poor coverage and Network speeds.
Things have improved massively for Vodafone, but they still are a fair distance behind Optus, and Telstra are just on another level. When you look at what TPG are proposing, it is going to make Vodafone’s Network look gold plated awesome... I cannot for the life of me see how TPG will compete and be profitable in the mobile space.
When TPG moved from Optus to Vodafone as an MVNO they lost subscribers because of coverage issues...
Let TPG sink billions into their new network, watch the share price fall due to falling earnings. If you let them roam on your network, charge them good money for the data and the privilege. Snap them up in say 3 years for half the price they are now, with 1m mobile subscribers, after they have lived through mobile startup hell and having their earnings reduced by NBN.
