    From the Managing Director

It was great to see so many people helping out at Fred Hutley Reserve as part of National Tree Day. A great time was had by all and I would like to thank everyone for their efforts toward helping the environment. We have had a record-breaking couple of weeks in sales and it is great to see more and more people coming on board with Jackgreen!

On a more pressing matter, you may have noticed we are getting a lot of attention of late. Some environmental groups have accused us of "greenwashing" and certain financial reporters think we are basket-weaving dreamers. Why all this attention?

Well as to "greenwashing", there are some accusing us of using green as a ploy to win in business. Nobody is arguing against our guarantee of 100% renewable energy at no extra cost. What they seem to be unhappy with is where they believe we get our renewable energy from. The belief is that we buy hydro electricity from old dams such as the Snowy Hydro scheme. And that this is all we purchase.

I would like to set the record straight. We do not buy from old dam Hydro. We buy from accredited low impact run-of-the-river Hydro. But this is not all we buy. We have just signed a long term agreement to buy all the green rights of the new Alinta wind farm. So you can take comfort that Jackgreen is supporting new renewable generation on your behalf.

"... and we'd all live together weaving baskets in a wonderful emission-free world."
    - Pierpont, The Australian Financial Review, Friday 19 August 2005

As to basket weaving dreamers, well what can I say? We believe that incremental change by a large community can make a big difference. And we think our business model allows for that change. However it is run as a most serious and very professional business.

And guess what, this attention gives a hint that we are starting to make that difference. Thanks for your support and lets keep up the good work!

Planet Ark National Tree Day - What a Success!

Planet Ark's National Tree Day was a great success this year and the Jackgreen team was a part of it! We helped by planting over 2,000 seedlings at the Fred Hutley Reserve in Cammeray. With over 120 registered volunteers and sunny weather, the day was perfect for planting.

The Jackgreen rickshaw and clown were a big hit with the kids, as was the barbeque held at the end of the day. The event was run by members of the Jackgreen team and North Sydney Council and a big thanks must go to all the local volunteers who came along to help!

Special guests on the day included Rebecca Gilling, Jackgreen customer and spokesperson for Planet Ark and Genia McCaffery, Mayor of North Sydney. Congratulations to all involved and we look forward to being a part of similar community events like this in the future.

Jackgreen Green Energy - Your questions answered
Thank you to those who have raised important questions through Jackgreen News. Here is the answer to one of those questions...

Question: How does switching to Jackgreen reduce greenhouse gas emissions?

Answer: Over the life of your contract, Jackgreen will reduce greenhouse emissions by investing in new renewable generation projects. After only 6 months in operation, Jackgreen has already made a significant commitment to the purchase of Green Power Rights from the Alinta Wind Farm. This wind farm is a new facility, whose operation will increase the amount of renewable energy capacity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

If you have any questions about green energy that you would like answered in a future edition of Jackgreen News, please email [email protected] with your question and we will put it in with an answer for everyone to see!

    Jackgreen Profile

This month's profile is on John Macintosh, Sales Manager

Working at Jackgreen gives me great personal satisfaction. I'm a dedicated family man, with children ranging from the very young through to teenagers who are just learning about the bigger issues in life. It's nice to know that what I do in my role as Sales Manager actually makes a difference to what will one day be left to them and their children.

My biggest challenge is to get our sales force talking to as many customers as possible in order to spread the message about what it is we are trying to achieve at Jackgreen. This message is not only for individual customers but for the community at large.

I have worked the majority of my professional career in sales but this is the first time I've actually represented a company and a product that allows you to really feel satisfaction when customers sign up. Here's a concept, help the environment without the need for you to do a fun run or sponsor anything, donate money or demonstrate. All at no extra cost or effort to the consumer! What could be better than having a great, environmentally-friendly product and the satisfying job of promoting it?
