Agree, cutting prices to get sales flowing through the registers is only half the story. Profit would be continually squeezing and then only under further pressure from the white elephant that is Big W.
However, on the point of the magnitude of the like for like sales increase, I think there's a fair bit there to suggest customers were captured not just from Coles, but possibly also IGA and Aldi. Seems to be what the media and analysts are mentioning too.
Don't think Amazon are all that much the enormous threat in this space that is being made out, at least not until more than a few % of Aussies embrace online groceries. I'd be more concerned about Lidl/kaufland who won't mind a price war.
