Hutchison Telecommunications Australia (ASX:HTA) half owned telco company Vodafone’s decision to shut down Crazy Johns mobile phone chain has been described as disappointing by the wife of its late founder.
Patricia Ilhan told Fairfax Media she was very disappointed in Vodafone’s decision to shut down the Crazy John’s chain founded by her husband.
Vodafone intends to close the chain on February 20, shutting 40 of 60 stores, with the rest reportedly set to be rebranded into Vodafone outlets.
Vodafone says the tough decisions were made as part of a streamlining retail strategy.
Crazy John’s founder John Ilhan opened his first Crazy John’s store in 1991, before tragically passing away in 2007.
Hutchison Telecommunications Australia posted a $131.3 million loss in the 2012 financial year.
