Suncorp Group Limited (ASX:SUN) chairman Ziggy Switkowski has told shareholders he intends to stay in the Queensland banking and insurance industry while carrying out his new duties running the National Broadband Network.
Addressing Suncorp's annual general meeting in Brisbane, Dr Switkowski promised to review his other corporate commitments - three weeks after Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull appointed him as executive chairman of the new NBN Co board.
Dr Switkowski says he expects new challenges and more workload in the NBN role but has the capacity to do both roles.
Since taking on his new NBN Co role, Dr Switkowski has taken a leave of absence from the Oil Search board.
He had earlier resigned as Opera Australia chairman and from the board of rare earths miner Lynas Corporation, but remains chancellor of RMIT University in Melbourne and a non-executive director of TAB Holdings.
Suncorp’s net profit was $496 million in fiscal 2013.
