Z, I use many different approaches when investing one of which is what I call my doom and gloom portfolio. This comprises a group of around a dozen stocks that most investors would not touch with a barge pole. It has been a specularly successful approach, particularly during the GFC and now the mining/oil downturn. I select stocks on a number of assumptions, I won't go into detail here but I can provide the current make up of the portfolio, most of which are handsomely in the green - CDD, CSS, SGH, MRM, WOR, STO, MGC, MEA, NEC, BKN, WHC.
What I have found is with this approach is that it only takes one or two stocks in the portfolio to take off even when the remainder continue to fall. I think the reason is that when beaten down stocks recover this generally happens with huge % increases i.e 200-300-400% and beyond.
Anyway, back to SRF, I think this will be another star performer in my portfolio over the next 12 months. This type portfolio requires a very contrarian approach, investors need to be greedy when others are fearful.
