TOKYO, March 11 (Reuters) - Some Japanese aluminium buyers have agreed to pay a premium of $105 per tonne for shipments in April to June, reflecting higher local spot premiums, four sources directly involved in the pricing talks said on Monday.
It is the first increase in three quarters and puts the premium at 24 percent to 27 percent above the $83-$85 per tonne paid this quarter. Producers had originally sought $109-$112 per tonne.
Japan is Asia's biggest importer of aluminium and the premiums PREM-ALUM-JP for primary metal shipments it agrees to pay each quarter over the benchmark London Metal Exchange cash price CMAL0 set the benchmark for the region.
The latest quarterly price negotiations began late last month between Japanese buyers and global producers, including Rio Tinto RIO.L (RIO) , South32 Ltd (S32) and Alcoa Corp AA.N .
Other Japanese buyers are still negotiating with global suppliers, with further deals expected later this month.
