re: News: Rio fails to score majority Riversd... Whoever is buying the stock now is protecting their bigger position to ensure that they get $16.50 for the large amount of shares tender into the bid.
It is buying insurance at no cost as anything below the $16.50 offer price would cover any holding costs and brokerage.
