Orica Limited (ASX:ORI) has come under fire from the NSW Government since an ammonia leak forced the closure of its Newcastle plant last Wednesday.
The state’s environment minister Robyn Parker told AAP Orica’s performance is “extremely concerning”.
She’s calling on the chemical giant to triple its efforts to ensure the safety of its operations for both workers and the community.
Labor MPs however are expected to ask Parker why it took so long for her to raise the alarm.
Orica was forced to shut its plant after an ammonia leak that saw two people rushed to hospital – on the same day the Office of the Environment and Heritage said it was prosecuting the company over another leak in August.
Orica’s not yet made a comment on the matter.
Orica posted a profit of $663.4 million for the six months to September.
