WELLINGTON, May 12 (Reuters) - New Zealand food prices rose 0.3 percent in April, data from Statistics New Zealand showed on Thursday, while the index rose 0.5 percent from the same month last year.
The gains were led by higher prices for fruit and vegetables, in particular tomatoes and avocados, Statistics New Zealand said in a statement.
Food prices make up nearly 19 percent of the consumer price index.
