Macarthur Coal Limited (ASX:MCC) may receive a bid from Anglo American that will outdo Peabody Energy’s current bid.
A Bloomberg report says Anglo is looking into Macarthur’s finances and has been conducting due diligence on the miner.
Anglo may launch a joint bid with China’s Citic Group, who is currently Macarthur’s biggest shareholder with a 24 per cent stake.
Citic’s chairman said it is not yet time to show the company’s stance on the offers being made.
For the six months to the end of December, Macarthur Coal Limited (ASX:MCC) reported a net profit of $141.25 million.
