Leighton Holdings Limited (ASX:LEI) has secured a $150 million contract to deliver the final stage of the Southern Sydney Freight Line.
Leighton’s subsidiary, Leighton Contractors, will help build a 36-kilometer freight rail line for Australian Rail Track Corporation.
The rail line will enable passenger and freight services to operate independently from between Macarthur and Sefton in southern Sydney.
Construction is set to start in October and due to be completed by the end of 2012.
Yesterday shares in Leighton Holdings rose 1.71 per cent to close at $21.47.
In the six months to 31 December 2010, Leighton Holdings reported a net profit of $218 million.
