Leighton Holdings Limited (ASX:LEI) says large scale production of drinking water has started at its Victorian Desalination Plant.
The construction company’s CEO says the first water production is a significant milestone for the plant which is now operating at about a third of its capacity.
Leighton’s subsidiary Thiess, as part of a joint venture, is designing and constructing the plant which is expected to be operating at full capacity by the end of this year.
Leighton Holdings posted a net profit of $106 million in the first half of the 2012 financial year.
