Leighton Holdings Limited (ASX:LEI) senior executive Stephen Sasse has called for an overhaul of occupational health and safety laws. It’s in an effort to put an end to the increasing number of deaths on construction sites.
Talking with ABC radio, Mr Sasse, the general manager of organisational strategy says as many as fifty people are killed on Australian sites each year and the number is set to double by 2014, based on present growth trends.
In the six months to 31 December 2010, Leighton Holdings reported a net profit of $218 million.
