Yeah well I'm pretty damn sure those countries have running water, electricity, food, education etc for most.
Wherever monies involved there will be corruption but it's at what level.
If mining can exist in Malawi the benefits which will be closely monitored by EITI and not the current EITI being fabricated will flow. This will enhance the lives of so many Malawians but it will also facilitate companies like SVM for a long period.
The only thing holding growth back is govt corruption at every level. Take mining - the govt has had millions of dollars from international instos to have the new mines and minerals bill implemented. This was completed over 2 years ago and yet the govt will not implement it - simply as it will close the door on much of their corruption.
SVM and others will not progress anything without certainty in taxes royalties appropriate infrastructure.
We're on the same team @butz and there will always be difference in opinions and I am not interested in Poland nor Kazakhstan where I have taken the high risk for no reward - my investment is peanuts compared to what SVM are planning and just as much people at SVM reputations.
Malawi is so far behind in infrastructure and skills which in some cases can be resolved but for the only big mine in the country it failed miserably. Paladins uranium mine Kaylakareeka died in part to subdued uranium prices but more so for no electricity supply. They kept the Langer Heinrich mine next door in Tanzania going simply because it had electricity. That is a clear example of the effects of corruption - dubbed "cashgate" the previous Banda govt allegedly stole mega millions of aide donor money instead of spending it on infrastructure as it were meant to. Disgraceful as it is she is back in Malawi heading the PP party - sick.
So what I'm saying is all this corruption in Malawi is cruel to its people and the future of the country. When aide money like I just posted is with held - like the Americans held back 6 months ago electricity, education, roads, rail all miss out and that is no help to a company like SVM.
The govt just say oh well and find other avenues to continue to Cypher funds.
It's changing very fast thanks to the many good people and institutions. Anyway I started this new post for anyone with anything relevant or news in Malawi. News which I posted is relevant because the sooner Muthy is gone the sooner Malawi will have a mining sector because he has done zip in 4 1/2 years except shady corrupt mining deals along with many other filthy deals to fill his own bank.
His vice president who has left and started a new party has stated he knows the crooks and will name them if elected and have them pay back monies. He won't do it now - because he is one of them but if elected president he will have immunity from prosecution - what a draconian law and how can any people have a future under that rot. Again some good people are seeking to have this changed.
Anyway the good news is that electricity is coming - mining bill? - new govt likely MCP by March 2019 who could be the catalyst for foreign aide to be bolstered again and much needed infrastructure improvement as a result. Without electricity, favorable govt re mining SVM are going nowhere.
