"The hypotheses for this research were: (a) spending on pet food would be income inelastic, and (b) spending on pet supplies, pet services, and veterinary services would be income elastic. This research found all four of the pet-expenditure variables to be income inelastic. The 95% confidence intervals did not include one for any of the four pet-expenditure variables. The highest end of a 95% confidence interval for any of the four independent variable variants tested was 0.355. The 95% confidence interval for the pet food elasticity overlapped the 95% confidence intervals from the other three pet100 expenditure variables, indicating that it's income elasticity was not significantly different from the other three variables. Therefore, part (a) of the hypotheses, stating that spending on pet food would be income inelastic, was accepted; but part (b) of the hypotheses, that spending on pet services, veterinarian services, and pet supplies would be income elastic, was rejected"
