Gold One International Limited’s (ASX:GDO) Modder East Operations in South Africa have been struck with violence from former employees.
The gold producer says about 60 individuals, who were dismissed in June for participating in an illegal strike, yesterday blocked access in an out of the mine and threw stones and vehicles.
The industrial action that occurred at Modder East in June is understood to be motivated by pay demands.
Gold One advises it has an existing three year wage agreement with its employees that only terminates at the end of 2012.
The company says despite the latest incident 90 per cent of its current workforce reported for duty after access to the mine was re-established.
Gold One International booked a net loss of $4.1 million in the first half of the 2012 financial year.
