I will have to look further into the announcements, but the advantage of a "custom" printer is that the printers can be made to fit class sizes on the heatbed, so if you have a class of 25 kids say, the heatbed can be made large enough to print all 25 items in the one print. 3D Printers "off the shelf" do not have that capacity, without just making miniatures. So you only have to buy one printer initially.
