Funny. With exponential financial aide and expertise from world bodies aiding and assisting Malawi to have a world class extractives industry the Malawi govt have remained mute and extremely conveniently sluggish in actually facilitating anything re mining.

The obvious reason is corruption. To implement the the good governance a country requires for a sustainable well managed mining industry would of course close the door to corruption.
Similar to the FOI which for absolutely no reason continues to be delayed in Malawi.

The issues in the media surrounding oil licenses - Kaylakareeka (whatever) uranium mine - the coal mine that finished - the ruby mine fiasco are all results of corrupt govt deals past and present.
These countries are not about country and people. Corruption is so systemic in Africa and Asian nations - the west do their corruption in different ways.

Funny now in that an election is looming and Muthy desperate for another term at 82+ gets on the mining wagon as opposed to his stage 3 address to the nation which excluded progressing mining activities.
Lets see with 12 months remaining before election if the mines and minerals bill is passed - lets see if any mining agreements and licenses as he has now spoken of are endorsed. Lets see if it's all done above board for the benefit of the country and people.

Chakwera has stated nothing to my knowledge re mining. To pre occupied sledging instead of policies.
