Yes, an open cut mine would be a solution but getting government approval would be a long drawn out process. It would also require the purchasing of property where owners will not want to sell. The Dartbrook U/G mine is below some good diary farming land on the outskirts of Muswellbrook. I could not see an open cut mine getting approved in these environmentally sensitive times. Also there would be large cost of purchasing the surface mining machinery and infrastructure.
