There is one VERY OBVIOUS conclusion from this extraordinary statement by Minister Yeo: under PP, she MUST therefore take the same action on ALL other very slightly naturally occurring radiation (NORM) material throughout Malaysia!
This means all the millions of tonnes of mining residue, much of it underlying Kuala Lumpur and other city new housing estates, all the millions of tonnes of Bauxite being trucked to ports for export, including Kuantan, and all the similarly slightly radioactive fertiliser being imported from China for Malaysia’s oilseed plantations.
For Minister Yeo to over-rule her own Department’s and her expert Review Cimmittee’s recommendations, and announce a policy that will single out only one company and destroy the Lynas LAMP - the ONLY rare earth production plant in the world outside China - makes me very suspicious about her motives, and those of her backers....
