I don’t think CCE would have a chance winning against Tesla if lithium batteries are the technology they use.
Where they might stand a chance would be using vanadium redox flow battery technology in partnership with Sumitomo.
It is too soon to include TNG (the other partner in the MOU with Sumitomo) as they are not yet ready.
From what I understand VRB technology can withstand extreme heat better than Li ion battery technology.
Without TNG, Sumitomo would need to source vanadium electrolyte from their existing suppliers.
The NT government might take the long view that having Australia’s first big VRB storage project, might kick start a new industry in the NT. One that does not exist anywhere else in Australia.
