Would love to see a more detailed case study on the below, a 50% decrease in cost is a big selling point!
"Recently, CCP’s platform was used to optimise the performance of a small walk-in freezer. Defrost cycle frequency and peak defrost temperature were adjusted. Changes reduced the power cost from $372.30 per month to $244.13 per month – a saving of $128.17 per month (52 percent). Across a large venue, substantial savings can be realised by optimising refrigeration with CCP."

There are some new technology mega-trends that are beginning to cut through the hype to yield real business benefits. CCP Technologies (ASX:CT1) – a listed public company – is delivering improved regulatory compliance, increased productivity, savings and reduced risk to the food industry with its Internet of Things (IoT) solution. Its new energy monitoring product line is expected to spark the interest of facilities managers.
CCP offers a critical control point management system in Australia and North America, and has an emerging presence in Singapore. Critical control points are the points in a supply chain where a failure of standard operating procedure has potential to cause serious harm to people – and to a business’ reputation and bottom line. Standard critical control points include temperature, energy, environment (e.g. air and water quality, pH, chemicals, noise, acoustics and gases) and movement.
CCP captures and transmits temperature, humidity and other data using Smart Tags (sensors) to a big data cloud platform, where it is analysed to deliver business intelligence. Customers access this information through web and mobile dashboards, and receive real-time alerts via SMS, email and push notifications. CCP is leveraging its cloud, IoT, blockchain, big data and AI technologies to revolutionise critical control point management.
The company’s first target market is the food industry, where food safety regulation, energy savings and waste reduction drives adoption. Most businesses in the food industry are still using manual processes to capture refrigeration temperature and paper-based records to comply with food safety regulations.
Michael White, chief executive officer of CCP, says, “In food service, fridges are mission critical. If they fail, it causes enormous business disruption and food safety and quality can be jeopardised. Years ago, automated monitoring systems were expensive and complex to install. Our customers know just how cost effective and easy it is to implement CCP.”
CCP has a diverse user base spanning:
Customers include all sized businesses, from small operations to large corporate chains and massive Las Vegas casinos. For these customers, continuous 24/7 monitoring of refrigeration reduces business risk.
- supermarkets
- hospitals
- aged-care facilities
- hotels
- clubs
- restaurant chains
- c-store chains
- education facilities
- hospitality venues, and
- more.
White says, “Based on our data, 4.9 percent of refrigerated coolers and freezers in businesses will suffer a complete failure each year. It’s not a matter of ‘if a fridge breaks down’, it’s ‘when will it break down’. Automated continuous refrigeration monitoring delivers far better outcomes compared to traditional data loggers and error-prone manual checks. If CCP is installed and something goes wrong, our customers know immediately. To further improve facilities management we’re launching new features, including predictive analytics to support preventative equipment maintenance scheduling.”

Refrigeration systems consume large amounts of electricity. In perishable food businesses, research suggests refrigeration contributes up to 80 percent of a site’s energy use, with compressors using about 90 percent of this energy. The Smart Energy Design Centre found that for an average US grocery store, 57 percent of its energy costs are directly associated with refrigeration, and that a $1 saving in energy cost is equivalent to a $59 increase in sales.
“Electricity cost are front-of-mind for every business,” White says. “CCP has announced its appliance-level power monitoring Smart Tags to empower customers to save money on their electricity bill. When it comes to businesses handling perishable food, by combining power consumption and duty cycle data with temperature, humidity and defrost cycle data, the CCP Solution provides a unique understanding of refrigeration performance.”
Having created a niche for itself in the cold chain, CCP Technologies now plans to continue to provide innovative monitoring solutions and complimentary services that help a wide range of industries.
