It boils down to whether virgin (and airlines in general) can be profitable in this day and age.

Qantas has historically been one of the most profitable airlines in the world, and it is only just scraping through.

And even when airlines are profitable, it can all turn around in a dime - natural disasters (volcanoes), man-made conflict, fuel prices, GFC, plane mishaps ...

Call me a cynic, but virgin has had years to try to capture the business market, why is it going to change now, all of a sudden ?
