I just caught an interview on CNBC with California billionaire Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, who chairs an energy company aiming to eradicate lithium batteries. They’ve now got the breakthrough tech to do it.
They’ve developed a Zinc battery that is completely clean, without the need for carbon input (ie recharging using non-renewable sources). It stores power at a cost of $100gw/h compared to lithium at $200-300gw/h.
The technology is apparently powering over 200,000 households in Asia (as per the interview) and villages in Africa too.
So much new tech emerging. This looks like a sure bet for the future with the backing of a major player. Between this and Graphene we may be very close to removing toxic lithium altogether.
