The waste scenario will only get worse in Melbourne due to increased population and relevant waste and ongoing civil projects such as MMRT, WestGate Tunnel, North East Link and Tullamarine Link. It is expected to grow by about 240,000 tonnes per year
The number of closed landfills outweighs the new landfills - there is now recyclable material being dumped in landfill and consequently something will have to give way sooner or later making way for additional landfills.
