It was the National Bank of Australasia and you are quite right that the Name National Bank of Australia came later - and in between the merger formed the National Commercial Bank of Australia - or something like that which was a combination of the names of the two banks.
I think (and I was incorrect in saying the CBA was the biggest a few days back) that the Bank of NSW was the biggest bank - which became Westpac when it merged with the Commercial Bank of Australia.
It was the National Bank of Australasia and you are quite right...
