It's not really about our interpretation. It's about Dr Nairs interpretation. He clearly took it to mean dismissed (not by choice) and even considered taking you to task over it.
If you were there you should have stood up for yourself and said that you used the term loosely and Dr Nairs definition is correct. Maybe you could have apolopgised.
