Also it may be worthwhile (and incredibly tedious) going through the product disclosure statement with a fine tooth comb to see if they described their policy for this particular set of circumstances.

If they haven't it would be worthwhile having a chat with a lawyer, or if that would cost too much just tell GFT that you have spoken to a lawyer and 'he is of the opinion that GFT is not legally entitled to demand full payment in this circumstance'.

That may be enough to get them to lay off or at least be prepared to accept whatever payment terms suit you.

Another option would be to apply for a new low interest credit card with a $12000 limit, withdraw the cash over 12 days (most credit cards only allow $1000 cash withdrawal per day) and then just pay the credit card off at a few hundred a month.
