Come this Fall, transit passengers along London's Route 16, will be able to ride in the world's first battery-electric double-decker. Engineered and built by BYD, the bus reportedly has a range of up to 155 miles (250 km) in heavy city traffic.

According to BYD's announcement at the C40: Clean Bus Summit held in London:

"BYD's Battery Electric bus employs many advanced technologies developed in-house by a staff of more than 15,000 R&D engineers including the BYD Iron-Phosphate Battery which boasts the only 12-year-battery warranty in the industry. Combined with BYD's proprietary hub motors and regenerative braking system, the BYD battery electric bus offers the lowest life cycle cost of ownership."

The Shenzhen-based company has built over 5,000 electric buses globally that have accumulated more than 50 million operational miles. The company's K9 bus has been trials in some 150 global cities in 36 countries.

Also, the company recently announced it would supply more than 700 of its conventional ICE-age vehicles to a state-run car rental program in Cuba.
