Kamula Doso Fieldwork to StartDate: 4 Feb 2010 Comments: 0 A full scientific team from Australia, supported by hundreds of locals, will travel to the heart of the Kamula Doso Forest area to start the scientific and technical field work required to map the Carbon Trading Project which is now in the last weeks of international verification. Nupan scientists just spent some two weeks in the country mapping out the work that needs to be done, and consulting local authorities and landowners on how best to achieve the desired outcome.

We want the knowledge and skills required to manage and complete this Project transferred to the local villagers, so that they can maintain their forests for years to come. For the Project to work, we have to have data collected every month, and be audited annually for the continued issue of carbon credits. From what we have seen so far, everyone is very enthusiastic to contribute and learn as much as they can. We look forward to a great success.

The scientific and technical fieldwork is expected to take a week, and is the last stage required for the international validation and verification of the Kamula Doso Carbon Trading Project, the very first of its type in the word.

The Project is being verified and validated as an Improved Forest Management Project (IFM), under the strict Voluntary Carbon Standards (VCS) protocols. This will produce the highest quality of forest credit and promote the development of environmental services and social projects, that will include education, health, transport, and communication projects throughout the area.

Because the Projects run for such a long time (35 years initially), the Landowners will receive money every year based on the work they do to maintain the forests in top condition.

The science team will come back at regular intervals to train and monitor the progress of the villages, and to encourage the next generation to develop the skills necessary to see the project run its full 100-year potential.
