Just posted this on the Short Term Trading thread, needless to say I think there's good times ahead for HXG....

Check out graphite & graphene player HXG.  Only $27m market cap and 193m SOI.  Big % volume increase over last few days.

From HXG's website....EV battery anodes require 10-20 times more flake graphite than lithium carbonate.  The average electric car uses up to 70kg of flake graphite.

Graphite overlooked
When downplaying the lithium supply issue, Tesla explained that the most important cost factors to a lithium ion battery included the cost of nickel and the graphite anode.
“The main determinants on the cost of the cell are the price of the nickel in the form that we need it… and the cost of the synthetic graphite with silicon oxide coating,” explained Musk.
Graphite has not experienced the price spikes that lithium is going through primarily because the price is driven by the materials’ consumption in steel, a globally depressed market.
As a result, graphite’s supply situation has fallen under the radar.

Free, I agree there is "plenty of graphite to go around", but this is not true for battery grade flake graphite .  I think you might be confusing amorphous + general flake graphite (both of which there is plentiful supply), with battery grade flake graphite (min 99.5% graphite & used to make lithium battery anodes).  Currently China produces about 70% of global graphite supply and only about 30% of this is of battery grade.  I think graphite will see a decent rally Free, but only battery grade graphite and to a lesser degree graphene (used in display screens, electrical circuits and solar cells).  Most people severely underestimate the shear volume of battery grade graphite required for EV/Lithium batteries as it's about the same amount by weight.  I'm still bullish on lithium and currently hold several lithium stocks, but I also think Graphite (battery grade) 2.0 will be here very soon!
