Haven't read them all but I'm interested in American Indian shamanism. I view Castaneda's books as the 'real deal' dressed up with a fair bit of fiction. Can't find the quote now, but Don Juan did say that drugs were only used when an initiate was particularly obstinate (like Carlos). He preferred not to use them.
