The trouble with this is that certain factions in the US banking system won't let that happen. A coordinated response from the likes of GS and others, as we got mid-2011, will stymie any run that looks threatening to the current status quo. Don't doubt that gold is the arch enemy to many (as well as a sure way to make millions of illegal dollars when the shorting ahead of the smashing gold begins).
But CHZ is a great way to play a rising gold price, that I agree with (it's just a matter of timing).
