FOR followers of the National Rugby League, it is grand final week. It is also a grand final week of sorts for footballer turned company director Benny Elias, and the colourful followers of his tiddler, Chameleon Mining.

Benny and his gang will be in the Federal Court in Sydney today when their case against West Australian-based Murchison Metals -- which they're suing for access to its Jack Hills and Weld Range iron ore projects -- kicks off.

Despite having hung up his boots about 15 years ago, the former Balmain Tiger still has a fondness for the sort of prose favoured by those who earn a living chucking a ball around.

The Chameleon chairman, who found his litigation funder in the British Virgin Islands, reckons his new role is not dissimilar to coaching a footy side.

"I think we have recruited well," Elias said yesterday. "We have recruited the right team: the best QC, the best lawyers, the best PRs." Elias reckons that 99 per cent of success comes down to preparation. "I'm very excited," he says. "It has been two years in the making, it's an exciting time."

So will he be doing it for the boys? "Nah, I'll be doing it for shareholders."

Porn shop owner Con Ange and convicted market rigger Jeff Braysich -- who were recently outed as participants in Chameleon's latest capital raising -- must be pleased to hear that.
