The amendment proposed by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency regarding i.e. the municipalities' total right of veto (Chapter 17 Section 6 of the Environmental Code), regarding uranium extraction, is an absolute necessity to meet the Swedish climate ambitions with a shift to sustainable energy systems, as the necessary energy and battery minerals/metals in the Swedish bedrock have significantly increased levels of uranium and thorium.
The Geological Survey of Sweden (SGU) and the Mining Inspectorate, have objections to the proposal. Svemin the industry association of mines, mineral and metal producers rejects the proposals.
Kind regards,
