Uranium mining in Sweden was stopped in 1969.

Uranium will be removed from the list of concession minerals in Chapter 1. 1 § 1 Minerals Act, which means that no permits to prospect for, to explore or exploit uranium deposits can be issued for new uranium projects. Older regulations will still apply to applications granted before August 1st 2018 as stated by the transitional provisions.

The ban also applies to processing of residual uranium as a by-product and recovery of extraction waste in existing tailings, and processing of uranium unearthed in conjunction with extraction of other minerals, e.g. iron, base metals and rare earth elements. Unless Parliament decide otherwise. The ban will be in effect from August 1, 2018

The ban does not cover mining activities relating to iron ore, base metals, rare earths or other minerals where the mineral is broken, sample-broken, processed or physically or chemically enriched for other purposes than to use the uranium fissile properties."
