Not sure if it cost him the race and for the record Marmelo was my only single bet on the race. Thought at first view in real time that it was the ride that got him as close as he did and I was certainly out of the lounge chair for a few strides inside the 200 until I saw the red cap descending. No doubt extra weight has an effect, have my doubts about the difference extra use of the whip has but do think had Bowman not pushed one out of the way would not have got the run he needed to put the horse in the finish.

Opinion only, the stewards have had their say and probably fair enough.
