There's no way of knowing exactly what carrying an extra kilogram over 3200m costs a horse but handicapper Greg Carpenter has said several times 1kg equals 2 lengths at 3200m. Marmelo was beaten 1 length. I think Carpenter is exaggerating, but 1kg over for a horse beaten a length is significant.
