the ball is in the air and in play.
If there is a good business case - then, the odds would be short IMO
"The government has set up a taskforce to investigate how to modernise the Medicare payments system - and one option is outsourcing these functions to the private sector."

IMO - if this includes MDR -------------- I would think 10 cents would be rapidly forgotten!
Getting GP's to the party via GP link is one thing -- and, a great thing for the company.
But, to get it paid via Medicare - is a totally different kettle of fish.
IMO - and, I am still to research the figures --- it is one thing to get the 20 buck plan up and going - that only covers a section of the market that can pay and is prepared to pay.
However, there is a huge ++++ percentage of the market that is wide open to Medicare -- aged and disabled that are on long term problem free medication - and, they don't want to go to the doctors surgery --- and, the doctors don't want them in their surgery - not just for a script list.
But, - 20 bucks to a lot of them is a lot of money - plus transport
If you doubt it - have a look at the amount single pensioners get.
Medicare billing for Pharmaceutical scripts without people going to the surgery ------ now, that IS a huge market.
Turnbulls mob are up for modernization ----------------- that means change - lots of it if it looks good.
Governments when they do change - often stuff things up royally - that appears to be their job.
But, often they get things in place that appear to save huge amounts of money on the surface - and, sometimes the savings are very real - if they do it properly -
Medication would be a glaringly obvious case IMO. Look at it this way -- Medicare gives a GP about 37 bucks now (apx. - please correct if wrong) for a short consultation - now, if they can cut that in half --- or near half ----------- what does everyone reckon?
The savings for Government ----------- 'on the surface' - would be HUGE.
The savings to anyone who had trouble free effective medication - would also be significant to very significant (depending on their income/time) - and nationwide - HUGE as well.
Now - imagine if the pharmacy dispatched by drone or courier for a small/free fee - imagine how attractive that is ------------ you need a script - you really don't want to go to a doctors and get coughed all over - you really don't want to go to the pharmacy and lean on the same counter as a gazillion other coughing spluttering, vomiting creatures - and, you don't want to get a bus there or a taxi (heaven forbid) - or walk there ------------ so, you have a service where either you or a loved one or carer - pushes a couple of buttons on an iphone/smart phone - and in an hour or 2 - a package is dropped at your front door - and, you get an alert on your phone saying so ----
how good is that? And - wait for it ------------ NO money goes out of your bank!!!!!!
No matter what we think about it - effectively, politically or any other wise --------- HUGE fundamental change is about to happen in the health sectors - it isn't 'if' - it's when -
it would seem clear that medications would be one very big target area - and, MDR is right guts up in the space - the bets are on.
If MDR can crack this --------------------- whatda you reckon? 10 cents?? -------- na!
have a great day all
