...... The delegation discussed the proposed steel plant with all three levels of government during meetings with Member for Flynn Ken O?Dowd, Member for Gladstone Liz Cunningham and Mayor Gail Sellers.

The Mayor said the Gladstone regional councillors and directors met with Metallurgical Corporation of China International Incorporation Ltd (MCCI) and senior Boulder Steel representatives for an informal meeting.

?The MCCI delegation was visiting Australia for the first time and was thoroughly investigating our region and thus discussion centred on the resources, including: the friendly and welcoming community, the water supply, limestone, the magnificent Port,? Cr Sellers said.

Member for Flynn Ken O?Dowd welcomed the delegation and expressed his strong wish that the project proceed as it would provide the region with a manufacturing industry that would employ up to 1200 permanent employees once the plant is built.

?Gladstone needs strong, sustainable industries like this that are actually producing something and creating jobs,? Mr O?Dowd said. ....
