Under the Tcard contract, ERG Limited was given just under four years to complete the roll-out.
It and the Government's Public Transport Ticketing Corporation are locked in a court dispute as both sides seek damages over the cancellation of the $367 million deal to supply Tcards.
About 100 companies attended an industry briefing yesterday on the smartcard project, which is expected to cost the Government significantly more than the previous Tcard.
