The RAS pilot was a real life situation using death as an endpoint. Must attempt to save all lives with severe malaria. The pilot season (1215 severe cases) was far worse than the previous baseline season (224 severe case) (see footnote ¹). It takes into account cost and drug misuse etc.
The ArTimist trial primary endpoint was parasitological success, defined as a reduction in parasite count of ≥90% of that at baseline at 24 h after the first dose. RAS was 100% using this endpoint. Also a proportion of the ArTimist patients did not have severe malaria and therefore under less stress and death risk (can find this in the abstract ²).
