I think a decent portion of the sell down lately were probably holders that didn't even know Mali had a serious problem until the issue blasted on to the front pages this week. The rebels in the north are middle eastern in appearance while the Mali citizens in the south are African both by appearance and nature. The only way the rebels get control is by force, they won't win the hearts of the people . the north won't be completely brought under control but pir is tucked away a long way from all of that. I wonder whether the cost of the war effort will lead to higher royalties from miners though?
