The requirements for Aboriginals to get into Medical Faculties were relaxed as were standards in exams. I know it did not sit well with most medical students. The thinking was they would go back to their own communities to practice. (yes I know in hindsight it sounds bad but that's the way it was then)
As for higher maths standards. There is no doubt the Asian students are brighter than the Australian kids. We get rubbish coming out of our high schools. Ask any university and just about any faculty - the first year of uni is teaching students what they should have known before they enrolled.
Our "wonderful" highly paid teachers are destroying our education system. Whereas previously we had thousands of Asian students enrolling into our universities for a better education, they are staying home because Asian universities now offer the same standard of education they get here. It is costing the Australian economy billions of dollars.
Our education system needs a major overhaul. Throwing more money at teachers is not the answer. What we teach and how we teach needs to be closely scrutinised. Our teachers - well - clearly half of them should not be teachers. Teacher entry standards are amongst the lowest at Uni.
We are becoming the white trash of Asia. Correction the multicultural trash of Asia.

many if not most Asian students only come here for the pr. its the parents pushing them - I know this first hand. a lot also had to do with black money that was being brought here to buy property or a business. one should ask why there are so many indian uber/taxi drivers not to mention the service stations
its an easy way to get a long term visa
