The philosophy behind using seismic testing is to improve the chances (though not improve to 100% chance) of finding hydrocarbons by ruling out certain locations.
From info in prospectus, Maclean was outside of gas zones, hence the statement of no gas but probably oil. But the prospectus did not say what it was, about the seismic survey, that indicated oil. It stated that oil shows were found in Moby, and two other drillings in the Moby gas field, hence the stated reasoning why oil maybe present at Maclean.
Pondering a bit more myself, I don't see what use was made of the seismic info.
