Darren is in the sin bin at the moment (shoulder charge), this is the email he received from Ian ,
Hi Darren,
In response to your request I will try to explain why the Oklo exploration team is excited about elevated arsenic at our Selingouma prospect on our Dandoko project in West Mali.
Arsenic is one of a number of elements that is analysed for in a "multi-element analysis" of gold samples.
In exploration, it is one of the better elements that can be used as a "Pathfinder" when exploring for gold, as arsenic is quite commonly (but not always in large concentrations) associated with gold.
I understand from conversations with my Mali team that many Mali gold deposits don't necessarily have big arsenic signatures. However, one very notable exception to that was Morila (8.5Moz). Oklo is benefiting from our Exploration Manager Dr Madani Diallo's experience with that discovery. Madani at the time was BHP's Exploration Manager for West Africa and headed up the team that discovered Morila.
He recalls encountering similar tenure of arsenic levels prior and during the discovery phase. Taking that valuable experience he is currently applying it to the Selingouma North and South targets. Whilst the markets reacted neutral to negative to the Maiden Drilling Programs results, to date, the geochem results (both gold in soil and auger) have been very encouraging and the maiden drilling programs preliminary drilling delivered significantly notable tenure of gold intersections.
You have to bear in mind that prior to Madani and his teams geochem work, Selingouma had no known gold occurrences.
The latest Auger drilling has been undertaken to provide better targeting information for future a planned second phase of RC drilling at the two target areas.
Our priority for the market however, remains at Disse and Diabarou discoveries and drilling planned for the second half of 2014 (after the wet season) will be aiming to build on those preliminary intersections.
I hope this clarifies your query Kind Regards
Ian Spence
