The short interest was 4918294 shares on the 19th and it then dropped dramatically to 2518872 on the 26th.
I started seriously panicking yesterday and considered short selling, but after reviewing the Short Sales report over the last few days (previous day's report available from http://www.asx.com.au/data/shortsell.txt) and finding the above trend I think it is too late and risky to short at this stage. It went up slightly on the 27th to 3316706 (but within the range preceeding the spike) and I am waiting on the report for the 28th to see whether the trend is confirmed or not.
